Main Characters

Koyoi

Protagonist

A nine-year-old boy raised in Kirihara. He hears the voices of fading gods and travels as a Gatherer, carrying them in a pouch with a broken bell until he can return each one to its rightful place.

Suzune

Gatherer of Name-Cores

A girl who searches the mud for the cores of erased names. Because speaking wears away her own outline, she uses few words and keeps digging to preserve both herself and what others have lost.

Asahi

Sword-Bearing Companion

A boy who carries a cloth-wrapped sword on his back. Blunt but fiercely protective, he supports Koyoi throughout the journey and stands between his companions and the Observers.

Kuon

Glass-Eyed Analyst

A boy with a blue glass prosthetic left eye. He reads the technology of the Observers and the condition of the gods, keeping a ledger that records events without deciding the future in advance.

Koyoi's Mother

Mother

Koyoi's mother, who lives with him in Kirihara. Even on mornings of heavy fog she prepares breakfast and his lunch as usual, continuing to hope for her son's safe return.

Shiori

Record-Keeper

A woman who carries a thick ledger, observing, writing down, and passing on what is disappearing. She teaches Koyoi that a Gatherer's task is not complete until each god has been delivered.
